Stand down

Legs are going from bad to worse. The groin strain has started to clear up with rest and just a few runs, and thinking more about my left stride. But that's brought more problems: calf strain in the right leg.

Took an easy 7k run into work on Friday and the calf stiffened up in the second half. Thought it was just the lack of recent running and would pass. Nup. Went out on Sunday and it was stiff and sore within a few minutes; tried to run through it for 10 minutes but had to give up and walk home. Still fairly tight and a bit sore this evening.

Reckon it's in the calf rather than the achilles tendon, which is probably a good thing, and not major. But why's it happened? A few reasons I've found...

1. Too much running? Well no, not lately.
2. Too many hills? Maybe, I live in Wellington after all, but again, not much running of any kind lately.
3. Stride is off-balance due to too tight hip flexors in the other leg? Possibly, even likely, given the recent groin strain.

So I'm taking a week off to give both legs a decent rest. Not sure what this means for training or entering any runs. There's a half-marathon in Wellington in a month that I'd like to do, and there's still Rotorua in May, but for now I think I need to rest (and stop eating so much!).
